Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo could still depart from Old Trafford during this transfer window, with a potential loan move to Turkish side Fenerbahce in the offing.
That’s what the Manchester Evening News claim, citing reports in Turkey. The Argentina international has fallen out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho, at this point, he’s probably fifth in the pecking order in terms of centre-backs.
After missing the pre-season tour through injury, and not being part of United’s squad to take on Leicester City, you certainly get the feeling that the writing is on the wall for the former Sporting Lisbon man.
With the Turkish deadline running until August’s end, there is still time for Rojo to leave and get regular playing time elsewhere, but personally, I’d keep him around.
In my opinion, Rojo is better than both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. At least Rojo has something about him, and that aggression he brings to the table often inspires his teammates through tight matches.
A loan move does well for nobody. If Mourinho isn’t a fan, he should be permanently sold rather than shipped off in the short-term. However, we’d be a man light as there is no time to get in a replacement. Spare a thought for Timothy Fosu-Mensah right about now…
