Shearer: This 29-year-old has been one of Man United’s best players this season

Manchester United Football Club got a much-needed win under their belts over the weekend, with Jose Mourinho’s side beating Middlesbrough 3-1. The Red Devils finally moved up from sixth position in the Premier League table, and it couldn’t have come at a better time as we’re now into the international break.

Antonio Valencia scored United’s third goal of the game against ‘Boro, and his first of the season as he capitalised on an error from Victor Valdes. Now, the 29-year-old Ecuadorian has come in for some praise from Match of the Day’s Alan Shearer, who is clearly a huge fan of ‘Tony V’.

Shearer has claimed that Valencia will put in an eight out of ten performance every week, and also added that he believes the right-back has been one of Manchester United’s best players this season.

“I thought that Antonio Valencia was superb and he has been one of United’s best players all season,” Shearer told The Sun in his column.

“In him they have a player who is an eight out of ten every week and if you’ve got a few of them in your team, you always have a chance.”

For once, I wholeheartedly agree with Shearer. In fact, I’d go one better and suggest that he more than deserves to win Manchester United’s Player of the Season award.

In my opinion, Valencia has been the stand out right-back in the Premier League this year, and that is huge credit to him when you consider he has only been playing that position for a couple of years.

You forget what a great servant he has been to this club already, and he has won trophies aplenty here in his eight years as a Red Devil. Long may that continue.
