Manchester United Football Club can look back on David Moyes’ short era in charge as one of the worst in their history, but one man who still gives the move to hire his fellow Scot his full backing was Sir Alex Ferguson – the man who suggested Moyes’ name to the United board.
“We did the best under the circumstances we were in. We picked the right man,” Ferguson began.
“I don’t think we made a mistake at all. I think we chose a good football man. Unfortunately it didn’t work for David,” he said.
“Jose Mourinho was going back to Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti was going to Real Madrid, Jurgen Klopp had signed a contract with Dortmund, Louis van Gaal was staying with Holland for the World Cup,” the former manager said.
At the end of the day, everyone was quite content with the appointment of David Moyes at the time. As Sir Alex said, the world class managers were all tied up to their clubs at that moment, and Manchester United had to make the best decision possible.
Obviously it didn’t work out, but thats football and sometimes thats exactly what happens in the sport we love.
