After not playing one single minute of pre-season football in Manchester United colours, you always felt like Romelu Lukaku was heading for the exit door.
Well, after over a month of negotiations, it finally looks like he’ll be departing from Old Trafford. According to Sky Sports News, 26-year-old Lukaku is close to joining Inter Milan in a deal totalling £77million.
A fresh bid was made last night with Lukaku now set to leave the club, as his agent is in the UK for crucial talks with United, while the player remains in Belgium.
It’s an odd one really. Lukaku is a proven goalscorer, no doubt that will continue in the Serie A, but the United fans never really fully took to the striker, and the way it has ended so messily is bitterly disappointing.
The real issue for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the fact that there’s now only around 12 hours for the club to find a replacement. That’s obviously not really enough time to go out and seal a move for a top-class striker.
Perhaps the Baby Faced Assassin is ready to put some serious trust in Mason Greenwood, though putting that amount of pressure on a 17-year-old is extremely tough.
