Manchester United’s interest in acquiring a new right-back this summer is well documented. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s name is the one that keeps appearing on the back pages more than any others.
However, today, Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol is now claiming that United are ‘stepping up’ in their pursuit of Norwich City right-back Max Aarons.
Apparently, the 20-time Premier League champions view the talented 19-year-old as an alternative to the aforementioned Wan-Bissaka, as United have not been able to agree a deal with Crystal Palace as of yet…
As Solhekol states, Aarons is the current EFL Championship Young Player of the Season after some impressive performances for a Norwich side who eventually won the league and earned themselves promotion back into the big-time.
The 2018/19 campaign was Aarons’ breakthrough season, with the Englishman playing in 43 games across all competitions – scoring three goals and earning himself some England U19 call-ups in the process.
Although two years younger than Wan-Bissaka, both right-backs did emerge on the scene in the same calendar year, albeit at different levels.
For me, Wan-Bissaka would still be the preferred option. I know he’s getting a lot of heat for the mistake he made during England’s U21 European Championship loss to France last night, but these things happen in football.
It’s easy to forget that he’s young and still learning his trade. Sure, Aarons may be somewhat cheaper than Wan-Bissaka, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for…
