Manchester United have been playing some really good football recently, and it feels as though Jose Mourinho is finally getting his players to perform exactly how he wants them to. That said, the Red Devils still sit outside of the top four, although the gap is definitely closing.
We’re now just two points off Arsenal in fourth, and the solitary point away from Liverpool who sit in fifth place. The title is probably gone for us as Chelsea just look too good, but Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson firmly expects us to cement an automatic qualification spot for next season’s Champions League.
“It’s hard to read too much into the fixtures right now as you could be playing a team with nothing to play for while your rivals are against a side fighting for their lives,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I’m going for Manchester United in fourth though as I think Jose Mourinho has got them going and I’ve said from day one [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan is a fantastic player, so having him firing is a huge boost.”
The former Arsenal man has taken a deep look at the fixtures, and he thinks that Jose Mourinho is the real deal, as well as Henrikh Mkhitaryan having a huge impact on proceedings recently.
You have to say that the Armenia international bossed the game against Leicester City at the weekend from that #10 role, and that is exactly where the 27-year-old must play going forward.
As we all know, Jose Mourinho is an absolute winner and he brings trophies everywhere he goes. Let’s not forget United are in the EFL Cup final at the end of the month, and on top of that, we’re really pushing our rivals hard in the league.
