Manchester United seem to finally be hitting some form under the watchful eye of Jose Mourinho, after the lads suffered somewhat of a slow start to life under their new manager. The players seem to be buying into his philosophy, which has started right from the heart of defence.
The boys have been that impressive, that they’ve received praise from even the most die-hard of Liverpool fans. Jamie Redknapp, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports News, has been writing about Jose Mourinho’s team, and had praise for a couple of footballers in particular.
Redknapp identified both Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, an unlikely centre-back pairing who seem to be flourishing at Manchester United at the moment.
“Ibrahimovic’s return to form has coincided with the emergence of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones as United’s centre-back pairing. I wouldn’t have put Rojo and Jones together and I think Jose Mourinho will look to bring in another centre-back.” Redknapp is quoted as saying in his Daily Mail column.
“They are both prone to the odd mistake – in Rojo’s case he has been reckless with a couple of two-footed challenges recently – but they have been defending brilliantly and helping United win hard games.”
“United are unbeaten in the seven games the pair have started together.”
“You only need to look at Chelsea to see that when your defence is solid, your forwards are under less pressure and are less likely to panic in front of goal.”
You know what, you just have to admire everything that both of these two have done. Phil Jones has an horrific injury record, and many thought his United career was already over. To his credit, he has come back fighting and won his place in the team.
The same can be said for Marcos Rojo, and personally, I thought he was a goner over the summer, but he stayed, kept working hard and grasped his chance with both hands.
At this point in time, you simply cannot replace either of them in the team because they are forming an on-field partnership that looks impenetrable at the moment, and everything Redknapp says in his column is absolutely spot on.
