Ander Herrera’s Manchester United contract is winding down, with overseas clubs now free to speak to the Basque-born midfielder about signing a pre-contract.
According to Sky Sports, the 29-year-old is attracting strong interest from his former employers, Athletic Bilbao. Although the report also claims that contract talks between Herrera and United are set to continue.
This comes just a day after The Sun claimed that Herrera had agreed to remain at Old Trafford, but it seems as though the English media outlet jumped the gun somewhat; although they were barking up the right tree.
I’ve said similar at various points this season, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Herrera is United’s second-best midfielder at the moment.
I get that ability-wise, he’s probably only good enough to be a rotational option, but that just shows you how much work this squad needs – particularly in that area of the field.
There are several players who should be out of the door before Herrera, though, and I hope that the club can sort him out with a new contract. he deserves to stay, he loves this club and he always gives his all every single time he takes to the field.
