It goes without saying that Manchester United need a new centre-half this summer.
As of yet, the Red Devils are yet to sign a defender at all under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – that simply has to change before our pre-season tour kicks off in under two weeks now.
One name that keeps popping up is Harry Maguire. The latest story comes from Sky Sports News, who say that United have told Leicester City that they’re prepared to pay £65million to sign the 26-year-old – although Manchester City have told The Foxes exactly the same…
Apparently, Leicester have been in talks with both Manchester clubs ‘for several weeks’ although at this stage, a deal is no closer to being agreed.
Sky adds that Maguire himself is happy at Leicester and he will not be forcing a move away – although the one they call ‘Slabhead’ is ‘open’ to a move to a big six club.
The problem here for United is that if City make an identical offer, there’s only one place Maguire will choose to head to – and it’s not us…
It feels as though a move looks unlikely at this stage with Leicester holding out for a fee in excess of £75million to even entertain offers for Maguire – which makes sense given his excellent form over the last couple of years.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, eh? Just twelve months ago United were rumoured to baulk at Leicester’s £50million valuation of Maguire. Now, that price has increased by a further 50%.
