It comes as no real secret that Manchester United are trying to sign a new striker ahead of the new season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic still hasn’t put pen to paper on a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams, and even if he does, he’ll miss the start of the season through injury.
One man that Jose Mourinho seems to be quite the fan of is Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard, 24, had a mixed season at Real Madrid as he scored plenty of goals but had to settle for spots on the bench for the majority of the campaign.
Now, Sky Sports News in Italy are claiming that Manchester United have seen their £52.4million bid for Morata turned down. It is thought that David de Gea was not included in any deal, but the Santiago Bernabeu club are holding out for around £78million to let the striker go.
In my personal opinion, £50million seems to be a fair offer for a guy who has spent quite a large portion of the season out of the starting XI. Obviously, you expect Madrid to play hardball with us, but I just cannot see Mourinho spending close to £80million on the Spaniard.
When you look at Morata’s style of lay, I do think he will be suited to Premier League football. He’s tall, quick, great in the air and doesn’t mind a physical battle. Obviously, Mourinho will know him well from their time together in La Liga.
