Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is willing to take a pay cut in order to seal a move back to Everton, according to Sky Sports and their usually reliable sources. The 31-year-old has two years left on his current Red Devils deal, but wants to move on to play regular football once again.
Sky Sports adds that talks between United and Everton are progressing, with the man from Croxteth looking likely to seal a move back to the club that gave him his professional debut when he was just a teenager.
This is a striker who has given his absolute all for our football club for well over a decade. Rooney has won everything there is to win in the English game, and he will forever be remembered as an absolute legend of Manchester United.
With that said, the time does feel right, and it seems like the correct decision to let him go. Last season, he just looked lethargic and way off the pace. Who knows, maybe a move back to the club he used to support as a boy will give him that hunger and desire back.
In my opinion, his decision was probably made up when he found out that he wasn’t a part of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, and the regular football he’ll get at Goodison Park will certainly help him in that regard.
