Manchester United Football Club made an excellent start to the Premier League season, sticking four past West Ham United. On the whole, Jose Mourinho had to be extremely pleased, but the self-proclaimed Special One will know that this is just the beginning.
Obviously, there is a different kind of pressure this season. Last time around, the Red Devils limped to a sixth placed league finish which just isn’t good enough. However, things were sweetened by the fact that we did manage to win two trophies.
Now, the aim this season is to mount a serious title challenge. After some excellent signings coupled with the main man himself Mourinho – we should be there or there about.
Sky Sports pundit Gerry Francis clearly sees the Old Trafford club as the favourites as well, and he reckons that the big difference maker could be Romelu Lukaku – who scored two goals in the aforementioned game against West Ham.
“I think it will be out of three teams,” Francis told Sky Sports as per the Daily Star.
“I think it will be out of Manchester United, Man City or Tottenham.
“I don’t see any of the other teams (winning it), I think Chelsea have got real problems.
“I think with Manchester United Lukaku is going to make a big difference. He scored goals at West Bromwich Albion and Everton and all in the Premier League.
“Man City for the money are going to be close no doubt and I think Tottenham if they can handle Wembley, could certainly go very close.
It is nice to hear that the pundits are actually fancying us to go all the way this year, but Mourinho knows that he has to keep the players’ feet firmly on the ground. This was just one win, and we have 37 more matches to play between now and next May.
Yes, it was an excellent start, but a lot can change over the duration of a season. I’m sure there will be ups and downs, but I’m pleased that Mourinho is the man leading us into the heat of battle – I genuinely would pick him over anyone else.
