Solskjaer admits Greenwood ‘has a chance’ to start against Chelsea

Manchester United made it two from two on pre-season tour this afternoon, thumping Leeds United 4-0 in Perth.

The performance was an excellent one right from the get-go. This Red Devils team play with a new-found intensity – and it all comes from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s high-pressing gameplan.

You can already see the benefits it is having in terms of chance creation, with United carving out openings almost at will against Leeds. The opening goal came from Mason Greenwood, who definitely enjoying scoring his first goal for the senior team.

Again, it was a free-flowing move initiated by Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, before Greenwood coolly slotted home to get United on their way.

After the game, Solskjaer was asked whether the 17-year-old starlet could play against Chelsea on the opening day, and well, his response was definitely interesting…

“He has a chance to start against Chelsea. I won’t say it is not a possibility. It is a good possibility if he keeps going as he does.” Solskjaer told reporters, including the BBC’s Simon Stone.

What a confidence booster this must be for Greenwood. Fortunately for the teenager, United don’t have a whole host of top-class right-wingers who are vying for starts at the moment, and that definitely plays into his hands.

It’s a tough situation for Solskjaer but I genuinely think he’ll have the courage of his conviction, and if Greenwood continues to play well on the tour, I do believe he’ll start at Old Trafford in next month’s Premier League kick-off.

Now it’s down to the young man to work hard, get his head down and continue to impress in both training and the match situation.
