Manchester United’s injury list has been extensive for practically the whole campaign. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working with one hand tied behind his back and this squad is looking thin on the ground.

One player who has been out for a while with a bit of a mystery injury is Axel Tuanzebe. The centre-back has been sidelined for almost three months now and us fans have been left in the dark in regards to what the problem is…

Well yesterday, Solskjaer finally offered an Axel Tuanzebe injury update, while setting a date for his return. The Baby Faced Assassin hopes to have the 22-year-old back in training following the mid-season break…

“Axel will be back after the mid-season break, training with us,” Solskjaer said live on MUTV, per the Manchester Evening News.

“He’s had a difficult spell as well because it’s taken so much longer than we thought. We had to make sure he is fine when he gets back.

“It’s three more games to go until we get a break. We’re still only on the second day after the last game so it’s still a bit of a recovery day.

“We’ll prepare for Sunday, and we just have to stay together, stick together and use the last bit of energy before we get a little bit of a break.”

Right now, Solskjaer is working with the bare bones at centre-half. Outside of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, the options aren’t really fruitful. Eric Bailly is yet to play this term and Phil Jones is an absolute liability.

Getting Tuanzebe back will be key. He’s probably the third-best defender at the club while he can also fill in at full-back if needed. With Ashley Young now gone he’s definitely an excellent option to have.

I just worry about his injuries. The last thing United need is another injury-prone centre-back at this juncture. Hopefully, this is just a one-off and Tuanzebe can remain fit for the season’s remainder. With games aplenty to be played across four different competitions, we’re definitely going to need him…
