Solskjaer considering playing Martial at striker next season: report

Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United future remains up in the air. The 26-year-old hasn’t featured on pre-season tour, which has only thrown his Old Trafford career further into doubt.

According to the Evening Standard, Lukaku is expected to leave before the close of the summer transfer window, although the club could have his striking replacement already at the club…

They say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering playing the 23-year-old Anthony Martial as the central striker next term – with the Baby Faced Assassin weighs up a new-look United attack.

While on tour, Martial’s versatility has shone through. Although the Frenchman has started games as the main striker, he has the ability to drift out wide and interchange with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Daniel James. He really can do it all.

It’s easy to forget that Martial actually had his best goal-scoring season as the main striker. The Old Trafford club does not have a player who is so cool, calm and composed when bearing down on goal – and it’s definitely worth giving him a go centrally.

I guess the only real problem I can foresee United having is what to do with Rashford, who is also far better playing through the middle rather than out wide. The two have a far better connection with each other than Lukaku, though, and it makes sense to invest any potential Lukaku fee into other areas of the squad…
