Solskjaer responds to Marcus Rashford fitness claims as striker struggles vs Arsenal

Yesterday evening at Old Trafford, Manchester United put in yet another shaky performance at home to Arsenal.

Before the game, there were question marks about who’d be fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, namely at striker. Anthony Martial missed out though Marcus Rashford passed a late fitness test.

The 21-year-old Englishman led the line, though he looked a shadow of his former self. However, a quick Twitter search during (and after) the game had fans believing that Rashford wasn’t ready.

Well, after the encounter against The Gunners, Solskjaer met the media and confirmed otherwise. Apparently, United’s #10 was ‘100%’ ready and he’ll be fully available going forward, too.

“How fit is Rashford? 100%. He played today because he was fit — I expect him to be available next week as well.” Solskjaer is quoted as saying by Tribuna.

As mad as it sounds, I was actually hoping he wasn’t fully fit and healthy because the performance he put in can no longer be excused.

Rashford’s usually first off the mark, hurrying defenders into mistakes and generally causing a threat. He was toothless, shy and poor in front of goal – which is uncharacteristic.

Perhaps we’re talking about a young striker who’s just low on confidence, which is somewhat understandable given the situation United finds themselves in.

It’s also easy to forget that Rashford is still so young, although it feels as if he has been around for a fair while. Youthful inconsistency is expected, but the pressure is mounted on the Three Lions man purely because he’s had such an exciting, positive start to his professional career.
