Manchester United’s pre-season tour hot-streak keeps rolling on. The Red Devils beat Inter Milan 1-0 in pretty convincing fashion, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s high-pressing game plan looking brilliant from first minute to last.
What has been most pleasing to me on tour so far is the fact that United look much more solid defensively. Three games have been played, no goal has been conceded. After shipping 54 times across all competitions in 2018/19, the Baby Faced Assassin has brought the confidence back.
It certainly helps when the positive juices are flowing and perhaps the biggest benefactor of the new United regime is Axel Tuanzebe. The centre-back has looked in superb form in his two outings so far, definitely looking perfectly suited to playing against the best of the best.
Following the 1-0 victory against Inter today, Solskjaer had high praise indeed for Tuanzebe, hailing the talented 21-year-old as the ‘future’ of this club.
“He’s got a future at Man United, of course he has. Today was a test for him, we know he can play at that level, that’s why he didn’t pay against Leeds. Axel is the future of this club.” Solskjaer told reporters, including James Ducker.
These words can only be encouraging for Tuanzebe to hear. After an excellent loan spell at Aston Villa, the centre-half has come back and is clearly doing what he can to cement his place within Solskjaer’s squad.
Right now, Tuanzebe and Victor Lindelof looks like the best centre-back partnership at the club at the moment – and long may that continue.
With a few tour games still left to play, Tuanzebe will be hoping to continue to prove his worth as he looks to start in that all-important Premier League opener against Chelsea in just 22 days time.
