Manchester United Football Club have had a mixed week. The Red Devils put Chelsea to the sword, securing a huge three points at Stamford Bridge. They’d follow that up with a poor display against Club Brugge on Thursday night, though it’s worth noting that changes aplenty were made.
For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the number one priority has to be breaking into the Premier League’s top-four and forcing United into the Champions League berths. Against Watford at Old Trafford this weekend, only three points will suffice.
Ahead of that game, though, United have been handed a massive injury boost, with key star Scott McTominay continuing his comeback trail. He ‘might’ be in the squad this weekend against Watford, Solskjaer has today confirmed.
“He might be in the squad.” Solskjaer told reporters, including Sky Sports News.
“He had a rest day on [Thursday], so let’s see how he is [on Friday]. I’ve not been surprised [by how quickly Mctominay has recovered] because that’s the type that he is.”
“He is a physical specimen, he’s a leader, he never shirks a tackle and he brings everyone with him.”
McTominay went down with injury on Boxing Day and at the time, it looked a bad one. Ligament damage isn’t to be messed with, though the Scotland international is a tough cookie and he wasn’t going to let it derail his season.
In just under two months, McTominay is now back in the mix. I’d be surprised if he’s thrown straight in from the start this weekend, though it’d be nice to see him come on for the last 15-20 minutes, provided the result is secure of course…
If McTominay can come back in and pick up exactly where he left off, don’t be surprised if the midfielder challenges heavily for the club’s Player of the Season award. Make no mistake about it, that’s the level he was playing at before he went down.
