Manchester United’s Juan Mata faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford, following Alexis Sanchez’s impending arrival. Now Spanish side Valencia CF are chasing the attacker’s signature, according to The Star, via The Sun.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and there has been no indications regarding a new deal for the smiling Spaniard – that has led to these reports suggesting he could well be on his way out.
If United aren’t planning on keeping Mata at the club, this window would likely be the last opportunity to get any sort of transfer fee for him, so I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he left over the next week or so.
Look, Mata has always been a bit-part player since Jose Mourinho took over, and although he has his uses, sometimes his style of play just doesn’t suit United’s. With Sanchez coming in, he’ll slip even further down the pecking order, and I’d totally understand the decision to move him on.
Don’t forget that he’s played for Valencia previously and no doubt that club has a special place in his heart. The more I think about it, this move makes sense for all involved, and I’m all for the switch.
