Manchester United Football Club will probably be best-served by dipping their toes into the water during the winter transfer window.

Right now, it feels as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could use all the help he can get. Amongst the list of players linked with a potential Red Devils switch in recent weeks is Christian Eriksen. We covered a story from El Desmarque, which claimed that United were ready to offer £42m for the Dane during the upcoming transfer period.

Yesterday, The Independent had another update to offer us in regards to Eriksen. Apparently, his current club Spurs, and their chairman Daniel Levy, are willing to consider January offers of ‘£40m or less’ for the 27-year-old.

Apparently, Levy is now pushing for the sale of Eriksen this January before his contract winds down next summer and he’s allowed to walk away for free. That’s because the Dane isn’t going to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane; despite a contract offer worth over £200,000-a-week.

It’s interesting because The Independent add that Spurs were willing to sell Eriksen to United over the summer – but at a much higher cost of £80million.

There’s no doubting that Eriksen would vastly improve this United squad. However, Solskjaer needs players who want to be here, while Eriksen will no doubt have ample offers from elsewhere. If the Reds get the 27-year-old on a cut-price deal and he gives them the indication that he’s going to fight for the cause, then I’m all for that. However, don’t make the move just for the sake of it…
