Squad News: Manchester United’s 18-man squad revealed by reporters

Manchester United’s season-defining fixture is just hours away. Jose Mourinho’s men head into battle with a 1-0 lead under their belts, as they look to cement their place in the Europa League final which takes place in Stockholm at the end of the month.

Over the weekend, the manager opted to rest stars like Paul Pogba, Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly, choosing to risk a loss at the hands of Arsenal, in the knowledge that some of his stars would be much fresher for the more important game against Celta Vigo.

Now today, the Manchester Evening News spotted an 18-man squad arriving at the Lowry Hotel – and more often than not, this tends to be the final squad that’ll take on our Spanish opponents.

Here is the 18-man squad that Manchester Evening News reporters spotted:

David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.

It’s great to see the aforementioned trio of Pogba, Bailly and Valencia return, and no doubt these guys will be ready and raring to go come kick-off time. There is also a spot in the squad for recent debutant Axel Tuanzebe, although there is no place for Scott McTominay who came off the bench to make his first United appearance at the weekend.

We have a slight lead, and Mourinho must be feeling confident in the ability of his players to go out there and secure a positive result. As long as we don’t get beat, we’ll be celebrating a place in a European final, surely we have enough quality to do it.
