Manchester United’s star attacker, Anthony Martial, is considering leaving Old Trafford this summer.
That’s the overriding view from the Manchester Evening News anyway, who cite various reports from his native France.
Martial joined United as a teenager, scoring a stunning solo goal on debut to topple Liverpool. Since then, the former AS Monaco man has further endeared himself to the Red Devils’ fanbase with some simply scintillating displays.
Since the year’s turn, though, he’s struggled to nail down a position in the side; largely due to Alexis Sanchez’s arrival. In my opinion, that has led to some serious question marks about his long-term future in Manchester, and I’m not surprised he’s thinking about departing.
To be brutally honest, we couldn’t blame him if he wanted to go. At this juncture, he’s not getting the playing time that his talent deserves. Is that the club’s fault though? Probably not, as they’d be daft to pass up on the opportunity to sign Sanchez.
Sometimes that’s just the way football goes. Mourinho only has eleven positions in the team, and having a player like Sanchez is worth its weight in gold. It’s sad, but I’d make that decision every single time. I’d also probably keep Marcus Rashford ahead of Martial, which also seems to be the manager’s choice as well.
