The January transfer window is in full swing, and although Jose Mourinho hasn’t dipped his toes into the waters in terms of incoming players, there has been several rumours linking faces with moves out of the Old Trafford turnstiles. The latest rumour suggests two stars could leave for France.
It comes from the Daily Mail newspaper, who say that both Adnan Januzaj and Memphis Depay are on Lyon’s wishlist for the mid-season transfer period. The Ligue 1 side are interested in the pair, but the key part of the deal could be whether or not they can afford their wages.
Let’s not forget that Adnan Januzaj is currently out on loan with David Moyes’ Sunderland, but the Belgian hasn’t really featured all that heavily for the Black Cats’ either.
The report says United have asked for around £15million for Depay too, but his £100,000-a-week wage demands would break Lyon’s wage structure. They also add that the gaffer wants Memphis to leave on a permanent deal, rather than a short-term loan move.
At the end of the day, it’s notoriously tough to complete business in January. Buyers don’t want to pay over the odds, whereas selling clubs don’t want to part with their stars. In Depay’s case, it feels like any potential suitors would prefer a loan deal.
