David de Gea – Didn’t really have an awful lot to do. Wasn’t helped out at all by Marouane Fellaini. 6/10
Antonio Valencia – Played extremely well. His ball to Zlatan for the winner was inch-perfect. 7/10
The Premier League season is rapidly approaching, with Jose Mourinho the new man at the helm for Manchester United. Ahead of that, though, he has to lead his side in a game against Leicester City – the Premier League champions. The prize; The Community Shield.
David Moyes duly delivered in his first competitive game as United boss in a comfortable 2-0 victory over fellow North-West side Wigan Athletic. The Latics never really tested us throughout the game, and United didn’t have to move out of second gear to achieve the win.
Manchester United beat Wigan 2-0 to win the Community Shield, the traditional curtain raiser to the season, with David Moyes collecting his first trophy as manager of the club.
United kicked off the new era in the best possible way, a 2-0 victory over recently relegated Wigan Athletic, both goals came from Robin van Persie. His first was a superb header back across goal after an excellent cross from Evra. The second a bit more fortuitous and found the net via a deflection.

United last won the Shield in 2011 after coming from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Manchester City 3-2 with a last minute winner from Nani. As a club we’ve won the Community Shield 15 times outright, and shared four of them. Moyes will be hoping to win his first United trophy by overcoming Wigan today.
Ahead of the game, Moyes confirmed that a United trio of Ashley Young, Nani, and Wayne Rooney will miss the game due to various injuries. This certainly paves the way for Wilfried Zaha to make an impact in his first competitive game for the club.
