Manchester United paid a British record fee of £59.7million to bring Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford in the summer, and the Argentine has certainly lit up Old Trafford with some scintillating pieces of play in his two months at the club. Di Maria won the Champions League with Real last season, putting in a Man of the Match performance in the final.
Manchester United’s awards night is usually one of celebration after winning silverware. This year however, it has been very different. United haven’t won any major trophies, and in fact it has been the clubs worst season in over 25 years.
As the season draws to a close on Sunday, United had their annual Player of the Year awards last night. Five different awards up are for grabs, with the most prestigious being the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award as voted for by the fans.
As the season comes to its final stages, its that time of year where awards are handed out to the players who have performed to exceptional standards, and this year United have three nominees. Both Michael Carrick and Robin van Persie are up for the PFA Player of the Year award, whereas Danny Welbeck earns a nomination for Young Player of the Year.
