Remember the name, Tahith Chong. Manchester United have always had a special gift when it comes to producing youth talents, and it looks as though the club have found another gem in the Dutchman.
Aged 19, the attacker made his first-team debut at Old Trafford yesterday, during United’s comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Reading. It was a glimpse into the future given by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and it’s clear to see that Chong has bags of talent.
He was willing to pick the ball up and run at defenders, using his pace and balance to carve out openings for himself and teammates, and this is just the start.
Today, Chong took to Twitter to send a message of thanks to his teammates, the coaches and the fans, and what a proud moment this will be for his whole family.
Now, it’s down to the staff to keep Chong level-headed and remain patient for regular opportunities. To me, it feels clear that he needs to bulk up a bit before he can compete with the best of the best Premier League defenders, but that will come naturally as he fully grows into his body.
For now, let’s just marvel at what a talent he is, and in a few years when he’s fully ready, we could have found the solution to our right-wing; which is becoming a real issue recently.
