Manchester United Football Club dropped a couple of points at the weekend, in a tricky encounter away at Liverpool. Jose Mourinho’s men dropped two points off the pace at the top of the Premier League table, but remain unbeaten.
The game finally saw Anthony Martial handed an opportunity to start a game, after some excellent displays from off the substitutes bench. The 21-year-old Frenchman was limited in his play, but that was mostly down to the tactics employed by the manager.
Before the game kicked off, Martial’s compatriot, Thierry Henry, had high praise for the former AS Monaco man. The Arsenal legend claims that United’s #11 is the most gifted player they have, before going on to laud the praise on the star attacker.
“I would go as far as saying he is the most gifted player that they have.” Henry told Sky Sports viewers, per The Sport Review.
“But sometimes it’s not enough, you need to add something more to that.
“At the minute he is adding what’s missing, or what was missing. He wants to ‘kill’. You see when he even has just five minutes or 10 minutes, he’s making the difference.
“When you look at the impact he has on some of the goals of Manchester United, it’s second to none at the minute.
“Now, he needs to do it all the time. That’s when it becomes difficult.”
Martial is the type of footballer that people pay the admission fee to see. He’ll go out people with his pace, power and directness. He has skills on the ball that can leave opposing defenders in knots, and when he’s on-form, there aren’t many better players to watch.
The battle between Marcus Rashford and Martial has been an interesting one. I cannot help but feel that the former has the trust of Jose Mourinho slightly more, but given time, I expect Martial to work his way into his starting plans on a regular basis.
