Thomas Muller signs new Bayern contract, ending Man United interest

Thomas Muller has put pen to paper on a new Bayern Munich contract, leaving Manchester United disappointed as they miss out on another big name target. Louis van Gaal was keen on a reunion with the 24-year old, but it looks as though Pep Guardiola has managed to convince Muller to remain in Bavaria.

Muller becomes the next in a long line of big names to turn down the chance to come to Old Trafford, and as of this moment it looks like we’re in for another disappointing summer under the leadership of Edward Woodward.

In a statement, Muller said:

“Shortly before the start of the World Cup, I’m very happy about extending my contract with FC Bayern until 2019. We held very good talks with the management of the club, which made it clear to me that I’m in the right place here.

“I have the feeling I’m an important component in the club’s plans. FC Bayern Munich has been my club since 2000 and will remain my club in the years to come.”

Muller and Van Gaal worked together previously at Munich, with the latter putting faith in the youngster and helping them win a league title in the 2008-09 season.
