Manchester United’s overhaul of the current squad is certainly set to continue over this summer, whoever the manager may be. Despite big money being spent over the last few seasons more work is still needed, so we’ve decided to have a look at some faces who certainly need to leave in search of regular football.
Phil Jones was once touted as the next Duncan Edwards, and he certainly started out that way. However things went rapidly downhill for the young man, and injuries certainly haven’t helped either.
He’s clearly talented, but if he can’t play at least thirty games a season then it seems pointless keeping him. Personally I’d like to see the club get rid of him now while they can still grab some decent money for him.
The Irishman was one of Louis van Gaal’s key players last term, but this season he has been way out of the limelight. Whether that be the emergence of Daley Blind as a centre-back, or the manager seeing something he didn’t like remains to be seen, but I feel he needs to go.
He’s still young, and needs to go out and find regular playing time elsewhere. He has the talent, but I’m not sure he has the ability to be playing for this club week-in week-out.
It was always a bit odd when United brought Sergio Romero in on a free transfer over the summer; Particularly when we have a good crop of young goalkeepers all waiting in the wings.
He’s an average backup, and nothing more than that. However I’d like to see him shipped out and his spot given to Sam Johnstone who is nowhere near the finished article but has the potential to be far superior to the Argentinian Romero.
