Praise from Stan Collymore? That’s a rare thing where Manchester United are concerned.
To my great surprise, the ex-Liverpool man-turned-pundit named three Red Devils in Daily Mirror Team of the Week; David de Gea, Chris Smalling and Marouane Fellaini.
De Gea had an unusually poor summer for his country, but thankfully for us, the Spaniard has been back to his best as soon as he pulled on the United jersey once more. Without him, we wouldn’t have secured all three points against Watford. That save he pulled off late on was absolutely out of this world.
Huge credit has to go in Smalling’s direction. He took his goal insanely well and any elite striker would have been proud of the excellent swivel and finish. Not only that, though, he remained resolute defensively throughout the match, largely keeping Troy Deeney at bay.
Finally, Fellaini. The Belgian midfielder picked up where he left off against Burnley. The ex-Everton man won headers galore, didn’t shirk a tackle, played the right passes forward and became a real key man in the engine room.
Hopefully, all three players can kick on and keep this good run going. Wolverhampton Wanderers are next up in the Premier League and that’ll be another tricky fixture. Three points are vitally important, though, especially if we’re trying to mount a title tilt.
