Manchester United’s season has been very hit and miss so far, with Louis van Gaal’s side producing some woeful performances, followed by games in which the team look simply unbeatable. We’ve taken a look at three players who United could sell to improve that consistency.
First up is everyone’s favourite Belgian… Marouane Fellaini. The 28-year old has been criticised since day one at Old Trafford following that huge £28million transfer. Despite recent form being much better, lets be honest, he just doesn’t fit the Manchester United mould. When he’s on the field our tactics seem to change dramatically, and we tend to just lump it up to him and hope for the best. Its definitely time to move him on and replace him with a more typical midfielder, and get whatever fee we can for him while he still holds value.
Second comes Antonio Valencia. He has been at United for quite a few years now since his £16million move from Wigan, but recently, he has been used as a full-back which obviously isn’t his natural position. There are plenty of better defenders out there, and I’d much prefer to see Louis van Gaal persist with Guillermo Varela and let Valencia leave.
Finally is Ashley Young. Louis van Gaal loves him down to his versatility, but he isn’t getting any younger now, and at 30 there certainly isn’t much football left in him. Despite the fact he can play in multiple positions, he hasn’t been able to nail down one slot and he is on some hefty wages too, which could be spent much better elsewhere.
