Tim Fosu-Mensah explains what Jose Mourinho has told him to do to win Man United place

As we all know, Timothy Fosu-Mensah will be spending this season out on loan with Crystal Palace. The teenage sensation didn’t really get the opportunities that his ability deserved last campaign, and quite clearly, Jose Mourinho thinks the best thing for his development is regular playing time elsewhere.

The brilliant Dutchman has already forced his way into Frank de Boer’s plans with Palace, and has started both of their Premier League games thus far. Now, the 19-year-old has revealed that both Mourinho and his assistant, Rui Faria, have been in touch regularly. Both have been ringing Fosu-Mensah, and talking to him about what he has to do to earn a place at Manchester United next season.

‘He’s been texting but sometimes he rings,’ Fosu-Mensah said, as per the Daily Mail. ‘Sometimes it is the assistant too. It’s definitely good to have that contact because I’m still under contract there.

‘He’s told me to just keep focusing on my game. We spoke and both came to the agreement that this is the best move for my development. He’s said that we should keep talking to each other.’

It’s great to see that the self-proclaimed Special One is keeping a keen eye on Fosu-Mensah’s development. This is a young man who has huge potential,  and could become a key part of our starting line-up in the not too distant future.

The fact that he will get the minutes whilst playing for the London club is a huge boost for his career as a whole. He needs to follow in the footsteps of Andreas Pereira, who came back from his loan spell last year a much better player.

As Mourinho has told him, Fosu-Mensah just needs to keep working hard over the next year and prove to the manager why he should become a member of the Red Devils’ first-team squad next season. Can he do it? I certainly think so.
