Tottenham eye Danny Welbeck, as United striker reportedly wants out

According to both the Mirror and The Sun this morning, Danny Welbeck is subject to interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who value his services at around £20m. The Sun go as far as saying that Welbeck, 23, is set to quit the club he supported as a boy because David Moyes has failed to use him in an attacking capacity more often.

Tottenham are keen on bringing in a top class tricker so they can push for a Champions League spot next season, and on top of their wish list is Danny Welbeck or Romelu Lukaku. Welbeck has two years left on his United deal, and is a certainty to go to the World Cup if fit.

The United striker has proven what he can do when given the opportunity as a central striker; Earlier on in the season when both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney were injured, Welbeck managed to score six goals in six games from the striker role, putting in some excellent performances along the way.

Honestly though, I cannot see Welbeck going anywhere any time soon. He’s a red through and through, and one bad season shouldn’t be enough to make him want to leave the twenty times champions of England. This sounds like paper talk to me.

There is also the fact that the papers say he will cost £20m. No offence to the lad but that price is a little steep, especially with just two years left on his contract.
