Ivan Perisic has signed a new long-term contract with Inter Milan, all-but ending speculation about the possibility of him moving to Old Trafford. That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that the talented Crotia international has put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at the San Siro until 2022.
It came from the Mail, as well as others, that Jose Mourinho desperately wanted to sign Perisic in order to add some more depth and balance to his attacking options over the summer. Now he’s signed on the dotted line similar to have David de Gea did when Real Madrid came calling – and it is a transfer blow.
For me, it always seemed like we weren’t ever willing to match Inter’s valuation of the winger, and a deal always felt unlikely. Obviously, Mourinho settled on just the three new additions rather than signing four players; and based on the start to the season we’ve made, it has turned out well so far.
Who knows what’ll happen in the future, but it certainly looks as though Perisic is comitted to Milan for the short-term and you cannot fault him for that.
Hopefully, it means that the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will continue to get more opportunities out on that left-hand side, and if they keep putting in performances of real quality, Perisic will be forgotten about soon enough.
