Since Moyes’ appointment as the new United gaffer, all the talk has been about the prospect of the Glaswegian bringing Baines with him from Everton. Yesterday it was confirmed that the club has seen their opening £12million bid for the left-back rejected, and its widely expected an improved offer will be made today.
First and foremost what would this deal mean for 32-year old Patrice Evra? Paper talk suggests the Frenchman could be on his way back to Monaco in a £10million move. Which if you ask me, would be a good move for United if we were to bring in Baines. The English left-back is three years younger than Evra and probably had a much better season than the United left-back as well. Moyes knows Baines’ game inside-out and must firmly believe he can do it at the top level.
Everton supposedly want a fee of around £20million for their star man, but reports suggest they’d be happy to meet in the middle and agree a fee of around the £16million mark for the Liverpudlian, which seems to me like good business all-round.
His crossing of the ball is second to none for a defender, as is his ability from set pieces. He also loves to bomb forward and overlap his winger on the left-hand side – This type of play is certain to go down well with the fans if he were to join.
having another Englishman in the United side is always nice, too. For me its a no-brainer, Moysey, sign him up!
