Manchester United were close to sealing a deal for the Argentinian when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, but Benfica defender Eziquiel Garay insists he is happy in Portugal and not thinking about a move away. The 27-year old was thought to be valued somewhere around the £15million mark.
With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand ageing, David Moyes was expected to bring in another senior centre-back who is in his prime to help out youngsters such as Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. Moyes didn’t invest in that area, and so far he has been proven right, as the aforementioned duo have been superb for United when deployed in numerous positions this season. Its also worth pointing out that Jonny Evans has carried on his excellent form from last year, and in my eyes he’s been our best defender over the past year or so.
Garay told Benfica TV:
“I have learned a lot since I came to Benfica and I am very happy at the club,”
Personally I haven’t seen much of Garay, but I’d like to think we’re well equipped at the heart of the defence, and I’d prefer the money to be spent on a new midfielder come January.
