Despite reports claiming that Robin van Persie is considering his Manchester United future at the present time, the 30-year old has publicly given his support for Moyes by suggesting that he needs time to turn things around. However he also admitted that the team are ‘lousy’ and ‘disappointed’.
“He is new and needs time. He’s working hard and so are we,” Van Persie told The Sun.
The 30-year old striker, like many of his fellow United players, have been far from their best this year. United currently sit eleven points off the pace in the league, are out of both domestic cups, and are facing a tough ask in the Champions League.
“We are lousy – in a lousy position in the league, out of the cups and this looks a difficult one also,” he said.
“We are very disappointed. It’s a tough season.
“Sometimes we play good but not always. And we are not lucky. That’s no excuse, though. We need to turn it around.
“We are able to play in a high tempo with massive power but in Greece it was all too slow.
He’s right, it was all far too slow in Greece. There was no urgency whatsoever, and some of the players honestly didn’t look interested at all – Including Robin. He should’ve scored that chance late on, and no doubt if he was in that position last season he would’ve hit the target at least.
He finished on a positive note though, suggesting that the tie against Olympiacos isn’t over:
“It is possible to beat them at home with 2-0 or 3-0, but it won’t be easy,”
