Manchester United’s topsy-turvy season does indeed continue. After being good value for a 2-0 victory away to Chelsea on Monday Night Football, the Red Devils headed to Belgium to take on Club Brugge in the Europa League.
Mass changes were made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the overall performance level, simply put, wasn’t good enough.
The game flipped completely in our favour during the last ten minutes, though. Bruno Fernandes was substituted on and make no mistake about it, he was the difference-maker.
It was a cameo filled with sheer quality. Driving runs forward, shots at goal, defence-splitting passes and some genuine goal threat. The Red Devils have an absolute gem of a footballer on their hands.
That’s a view echoed by Robin van Persie, too, who heaped the praise on the 25-year-old United star after his excellent display against Brugge:
“He was unbelievable.” Van Persie said live on BT Sport (video below).
“With top players, you can tell straight away he has something.”
“Silky on the ball, a joy to watch!”
It really was different class. Bruno has only been here five minutes and he already looks several levels above many of his teammates. Can you imagine just how good he’ll be when the Portuguese fully adjusts and adapts to Premier League football?
That also begs the question as to why United didn’t make this move in the summer. I feel very comfortable in saying that if Fernandes had been here all season, we’d be sitting comfortably in the top-four places already rather than sweating it out.
I guess we have to be happy to have Fernandes in the team now, though. Make no mistake about it, he could well be the reason why United are playing in Europe’s premier competition next term…
