Manchester United have several players who’s current deals at the club expire this season. So far, Edward Woodward and Jose Mourinho have convinced Luke Shaw to put pen to paper, but there is still much work to be done.
One man who United should definitely be looking at keeping is Ashley Young. The ex-Aston Villa man scored a cracking goal at the weekend and he has always been a consistent performer ever since arriving at Old Trafford.
Now 33, the club will likely hand him deals on a year-by-year basis from here on out, but the Red Devils #18 has admitted that he’d love to sign a new deal and remain at the Theatre of Dreams.
“That’s up to the club,” Young is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“I feel as fit as when I was 21 years old. As long as my legs can keep taking me up and down the pitch, I’d love to stay here.”
His best days are certainly behind him, but you cannot fault his commitment, desire and drive. I still believe that as a squad player, he still has something to offer us – for another year at least.
The fact that he can play practically all over the feel is a testament to his effort and keenness to play regular football. There have been patches where Young has struggled to get into the team, but you can bet your bottom dollar he’s giving it his all on the training ground to force his way back into the setup. Right now, he looks like one of Mourinho’s most trusted, and he deserves credit for that.
