Versatile Man United man close to agreeing new contract, keen to stay: report

Manchester United have managed to tie down both Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial to new deals, while talks are still ongoing with several other players.

Amongst those out-of-contract is Ashley Young, but according to the BBC, the Red Devils are close to agreeing a new one-year deal with the versatile 33-year-old.

Young is keen to remain at United, with talks progressing well. United see him as a key part of their squad as well as being influential within the dressing room. He’s also one of just five current players with a Premier League winners medal under their belts.

I like Youngy, and as a squad player, he’s great to have around due to the fact that he can play at a high level in multiple positions.

However, he shouldn’t be a regular starter. We’ve seen the quality diminish at times and that’s due to his age. He’s only going to regress, so over time, it makes sense to ease him gradually out of the starting line-up.

He’s definitely worthy of a further twelve months at Old Trafford as no doubt injuries will build up and Mr. Reliable can step in and do a solid cover-up job.
