Manchester United Football Club could be about to lose the versatile Daley Blind this summer.
The usually-excellent Dutch publication, De Telegraaf, per The Sun, say his former employers Ajax are planning to bring Blind back to his boyhood club.
After making just four Premier League starts last season, you can understand exactly why Blind would want to leave, and you’d also get why he’d want to move back to Ajax. The Eredivisie side are the club he supported as a boy, and no doubt trophies aplenty would be on offer in the Holland capital.
The 28-year-old has been an excellent servant at Old Trafford – particularly under Louis van Gaal, who transformed Blind into an underrated centre-half.
Under Jose Mourinho, though, chances were always going to be hard to come by. The self-proclaimed Special One loves tall, physical footballers, rather than the slight, technically-gifted ones. To be honest with you, I’m surprised he’s lasted this long.
If the Red Devils can sell him now and get a decent transfer fee for him, then everyone is a winner. With his contract winding down, in reality, this is United’s best opportunity to recoup as much of the £14million that they paid for him that they can.
