Manchester United’s awards ceremony took place at Old Trafford last night – and although it has been a forgetful season for the first-team. Both the Women’s squad and youth sides deserve recognition for their respective seasons.
In amongst all the awards and glamour, MUTV were left rather red-faced following an interview with cricket legend Geoff Boycott. The 78-year-old didn’t hold back as you can see below, leaving interviewer Mark Sullivan looking somewhat confused as to what to do.
Obviously, United and MUTV wouldn’t have been all-too-pleased with what went down during Boycott’s interview, and I’m rather surprised that ‘technical difficulties’ didn’t cut things short as his rant went on…
If we’re being brutally honest, though, everything he was saying is correct. These players haven’t been good enough, quite frankly, the effort levels from several members of the squad is borderline unacceptable – and a real change in attitude is required to turn this around.
Be it an interview with the mainstream media, this wouldn’t receive the coverage it currently is doing, but because it was carried out by United’s in-house channel, it just makes them all look rather silly.
I’m guessing that next year Boycott’s invitation to the award ceremony is going to get lost in the post… Although it did make for rather entertaining television.
