Watch: Romelu Lukaku scores first Man United goal vs Real Salt Lake

Today was what we expect to be Romelu Lukaku’s first Manchester United goal of many. The 24-year-old joined the Red Devils from Everton just over a week ago, and it was great to see the Belgian beast handed his first start in our famous jersey.

As the game was winding down towards the end of the first-half, United were clicking nicely into gear and began playing some lovely football. Then, came Lukaku’s first goal. He was played in wonderfully, before showing great composure to seat the goalkeeper, then he finished coolly to give the visitors the lead.

That goal will take the pressure off somewhat. Fair enough, it’s only pre-season but it is always nice to get off the mark for your new club.

What was more impressive for me though was his performance as a whole. He looked right at home leading the line for United, and it was great to see him in action.

His hold-up play was superb, and he linked up with his teammates wonderfully – particularly Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. As for his first touch, it looked very solid to me, and no doubt Jose Mourinho and the rest of the coaching staff will have been very happy with Lukaku.
