‘We’ve only got one Chong!’ Rung out around Old Trafford as Manchester United handed a first-team debut to the bushy-haired Dutchman against Reading.
While he showed promise aplenty, you can tell that the 19-year-old is still developing and learning – both mentally and physically. This week, he headed back to the U23s team, playing in the PL2 against Fulham.
In brilliant fashion, Chong opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick; as he continues to prove that he is just too good for that level. Check out this beauty posted on United’s official Twitter account:
This lad is something special, although he’ll have a job taking Marcus Rashford off free-kicks at the moment!
Jokes aside, Chong has an extremely bright future if he keeps his head screwed on, and he’s at exactly the right place to continue to develop and grow. This club always gives young players a chance and I fully expect that to continue whoever the manager is.
Credit also has to go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for having the courage to throw him on in the FA Cup last weekend when the score was only 2-0. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him from now until the season’s end.
