Wayne Rooney’s time at Manchester United is over. The 31-year-old will go down as an icon of this great football club, and as supporters, we’ll have memories galore that we’ll take with us to our graves. You simply cannot put a price on that.
Shortly after his move to Goodison Park was confirmed, the forward took to Instagram to share some extremely kind words about his time at the Theatre of Dreams.
He began by thanking the boards, managers and coaches he has worked under during his thirteen-year stint, before thanking the fans that have absolutely adored the man from Croxteth for well over a decade.
Just want to say a massive thank you to everybody at @manchesterunited. Thanks to the boards over the years, the managers and coaches I’ve played under, the staff I’ve worked with, the team mates I’ve played alongside, and finally the amazing fans that I’ve been lucky enough to have played for. Thanks for the memories ❤️
We’ll all miss Rooney. He’s a player that single-handedly has dragged our great club through the mire at times and some of the goals he scored were absolutely insane. From that stunning debut hat-trick against Fenerbahce to a wonderful free-kick against Stoke City that made him our record goalscorer, he’ll go down as an absolute great.
It does hurt to see him repping Everton colours once again, but you always felt like this move would be on the cards. I genuinely wish him the best of luck, and what a reception he’ll receive when he comes back to Old Trafford with The Toffees on September 17th.
