West Ham want £60m for Man United target Issa Diop: Sky

On Sunday, we covered a story from Sky Sports News in which it was claimed that Manchester United had shown an interest in West Ham defender Issa Diop…

Around 36 hours later, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol provided us further information on United’s proposed move for the Frenchman.

The Red Devils have since learned that West Ham would sell the 22-year-old for around £60million, while United, along with FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, have contacted Diop’s representatives.

Apparently, United were in discussions with the Hammers and they asked for a certain unnamed player involved in the deal. The Reds apparently weren’t willing to include said player…

Although the United player West Ham asked for remained nameless, I’d imagine it wasn’t Ashley Young or Phil Jones…

Jokes aside, Diop is an underrated player and I’m surprised that United weren’t linked with a move to sign him sooner.

The Frenchman emerged as an excellent centre-half last term, forming a real solid partnership with Fabian Balbuena at the heart of West ham’s defence.

You get the feeling that the Reds probably feel a move for Harry Maguire will cost too much, hence why new names are now being thrown into the ring. Again, though, if United aren’t completely sold on Diop, don’t be surprised to see this name discarded within a week or so and another new potential target coming to the fore shortly after.

For me, Diop fits the mould perfectly. He’s young, learning all the time and hungry to take his game to that next level. This is a transfer story I can firmly get behind…
