Woodward not on tour as he tries to secure deals for Maguire & Longstaff: report

It was six years ago now when Edward Woodward left Manchester United’s 2013 tour of Australia to conduct ‘urgent transfer business’. To this day, we still don’t know exactly what he flew back to England for…

Anyway, now in 2019, United find themselves in Australia once again. This time around, though, Woodward has cut out the middle man and not even bothered to fly out to the Far East (as of yet anyway).

Well, according to the Evening Standard, Woodward is not on tour as he looks to sign a duo of Premier League players…

Apparently, he’s looking to secure both Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly identifying both centre-half and central-midfield as his biggest needs at this point.

The article from the Evening Standard also goes on to say that United’s centre-back options may have to be trimmed if Maguire is signed. Although it may be tough for players like Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones or Chris Smalling to be moved on – as all have recently signed long-term deals.

I think it says more about how poorly this club is being run at the moment than anything. United have made their own bed and it’ll be a while before they can get out of it. To me, it does feel as though the Reds are now trying to move in a positive direction which is a start, but the club have to really push on and try to clear out as much of the dead wood as possible.
