David de Gea has left Manchester United stunned, as he sets his sights on a summer move to PSG, according to Don Balon, translated by The Express.
Every year now, it feels like De Gea is linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but what’s surprising to me about this report is the fact that he wants to head to France.
Don’t get me wrong, Ligue 1 is certainly on the up, with PSG signing world-class stars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. But I’d be disappointed to lose De Gea to a French side.
There is only a handful of clubs on Manchester United’s level in terms of stature and presence, half of which are back in his homeland of Spain. If he were to move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, I’d fully understand that career choice.
With that said, I don’t expect United, nor Jose Mourinho to let him leave. You want to keep ahold of your stars to attract other big names to come and play for your club, and at this point in time, I feel comfortable when I say that De Gea is probably the best in the world in between the sticks. Letting him go would be a huge mistake, and I just don’t see it happening anytime soon.
