Manchester United made a last-ditch attempt to sign Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao on loan just over a year ago, but David Moyes didn’t manager to pull the deal off before the midnight deadline on transfer deadline day, and Marouane Fellaini was the only signing made that summer.
The Portugal international hasn’t featured all that often for Real Madrid since then, and it looks as though the versatile 27-year old could well be edging for a move away from the Bernebeu.
Coentrao said: “Manchester United is one of the best clubs in the world, a club that I admire a lot. It would be an honour to play there.”
It seems to me like Coentrao is trying to force Madrid’s hand into selling him, and he realises that United were interested in him at one point so he is probably using the club to his advantage.
His versatility would come in handy at Old Trafford, and we all know Louis van Gaal likes his players to be able to compete in a number of different positions.
