Time may well be dwindling down on Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United career.
I think it’s fair to say there have been some sub-par performances from the team this season. That has led to doubts about the self-proclaimed Special One’s long-term future.
The favourite to land the United job should Mourinho leave is Zinedine Zidane. Now, the Frenchman has had his say on the situation. He’s keen on returning to management ‘soon’ – although he doesn’t name a particular club directly.
When asked if he’ll be back in the dugout soon, Zidane replied:
“Yes, surely. Soon I will return to training because it is what I like and is what I have done all my life.” The three-time Champions League winner told TVE, per the Daily Mirror.
After three successful seasons at Real Madrid, Zidane chose to step down. I guess it’s better to go out on a high rather than potentially risk tarnishing your legacy.
However, it looks as though he’ll be returning to the game sooner than expected. I get the impression that Zidane is waiting for that big opening at an elite club. If United do decide to relieve Mourinho of his duties, you can bet that the ex-midfielder will be right at the front of the queue.
Would he be a good choice? Who knows. Things are completely different here in England, while the squad is nowhere near as good as the one Zidane had at his disposal in the Spanish capital. I still think it’d be somewhat of a gamble to bring him in.
